Compression therapy is simply a part of anything related to a vein or lymph related disorder. The key is that not all compression is the same! We carry highest quality brands of compression and recognize that not all limbs are the same. The principles of compression therapy are as follows: Proper dose (strength of garment); Proper style (height for the problem); the garments must be able to donned and doffed (put on and taken off) to allow for compliance.
The majority of our patients who say they have tried compression before state that it didn’t work. The problem here is that over the counter stockings are poorly constructed and have a tendency to roll leading to a tourniquet effect. This will NOT occur with a proper fit and a ‘grip top’ that forbids rolling at the knee. Keep in mind that not all compression is a stocking. We offer Velcro garments that are durable and allow a loved one to assist if needed. Velcro garments are not for everyone but they offer reliable compression and flexibility in application vs. a stocking. We love stockings, we wear them every day. The key is ultimately getting the right garment for you.
